Since then, a sort of TINA (There Is No Alternative) attitude has emerged around these issues. A soft consensus underpins the idea that there would only be one possible policy on the matter, and that its parameters would be strictly technical, applied regardless of the political regime in place. This kind of thinking is predicated on a dangerous notion: that there is little difference between authoritarian liberalism and liberal authoritarianism, since both apply the same type of measures and can therefore be interchanged with impunity.
